There's Dry, which is a Wonderful Thing (when we're talking about basements, not skin or reservoirs or...) and then there's maybe also Dry Enough? And then there is Not Dry Enough (aka mold, damage to items, etc...).

May your basement be Dry Enough even if it does not manage the pinnacle of Dry, is what I'm saying...

KC - That’s a good point. I can live with a damp basement. Especially after the spring we’ve had. Maybe that’s all anyone can ask for.

Kathy G

I would suggest buying or borrowing a dehumidifier and see if that helps.

theQueen

Kathy G - we have humidifiers. But dehumidifiers? Ooh I just looked those up on Amazon. That is the price point at which we feel hopeful.

KC

(Just a warning that chemical dehumidifiers, if spilled, can make spots that *get* wet on the floor whenever it is more humid than average, because they selectively slurp moisture out of the air. Drove us nuts in our garage trying to figure out where this wet spot could possibly be coming from until we realized what had happened. But the "mechanical" ones that pull moisture into a tank that you empty, or send it down a pipe or whatever: not a problem)

KC - That's good information. It's so humid here, yet I didn't even know there were chemical dehumidifiers.

KC

DryZAir crystals were, I think, what spilled in our garage and later befuddled us...

theQueen

KC - Thanks. That's good to know.
