KC - yes. Cartoons are about getting the most expression from the least work.

(I suspect some cartoons have as much effort put into them as some drawings that have more lines, though; it's sometimes harder to decide where to place, say, 5 lines to maximally communicate something in the physical world plus emotion and movement, than to draw the same object/person with a ton of lines.)

KC - I suspect you are right. Rough drafts of cartoons I have seen have many lines.
