Months ago, Gary and I had this exchange:
“Oh, oh, Gary, I heard about this movie --”
“The one with Emma Stone?”
“YES.”
“We have to see it!”
Quirky, sexy, sounded perfect for us.
Last night, we started watching it on Hulu. Gary winced when he saw the pregnancy bump and realized the doctor’s plans. “THIS MOVIE IS DISGUSTING AND THAT WOULD NEVER EVEN WORK.”
“So,” I answered, “You’re going to argue about the feasibility of the science in this movie? You know what the plot is, right?”
“Well, they should have least tried to get the science right.”
Things went downhill from there, and I ended up shutting it off soon after that. He went back to watching Only Murders in the Building and I went to bed.
This morning I picked up where I’d left off, and continued watching what is NOW MY FAVORITE MOVIE OF ALL TIME. (Even though Brief Encounter is still a close second, and very similar in theme to this movie, with the themes of being true to who you are.)
I laughed out loud numerous times (particularly at the close-up of the goat.)
After he woke up I berated Gary for bailing on it. I suspected he had been uncomfortable because the word “whore” was bandied about a lot, and he’d just called me that the day before, and the main character was a bit too much like me of late.
“Oh I watched it all after you went to bed,” he admitted. “I loved it.”
ELLEN not HAPPY. Ellen want to watch movie with grown husband man to share happy noises.
ELLEN say movie good, all must watch.
