That is a trickle of water going into the sump pump during a recent rain. It is going into the pump and not carving a canyon into the basement floor as it has for the past fifteen years.

But my joy is not unadulterated.

A new puddle appeared on the opposite end of the basement where a puddle has never been before.

Hooray!!! And AUGH.

(this is a very long shot, but: we had a puddle in our garage, and it turned out to be a dehumidifier crystal spill, which therefore slurped up water and created a puddle - any chance that's the mystery puddle? or is it coming from overhead, or something else entirely...?)

KC - two possibilities. It is the very spot where 30 years ago a dog regularly peed during his house training. Maybe the acid etched through the cement? Also, there is a prominent rabbit warren exit above it. That;s been blocked now and water diverted. So we will see.
