Our baseball team habitually stinks until mid-season, then they harvest the farm teams and become the Saint Louis Phoenixes and soar into the playoffs.
This year the Saint Louis Sports Drama Committee decided to juice it up and make them suck until the last possible moment and then have a dramatic reversal in which they win every game, preferably with loaded bases, a full count, then a walk-off homer.
The current winning streak is in the double digits, currently 15, so it’s getting national attention. I even heard an out-of-town commentator try to reference Whiteyball, only he called it Whitey baseball or White Rat baseball or some other perversion of the phrase because in 1980 his parents were ten.
Last night they got the streak up to 14 in a row to tie Dizzy Dean’s team record from 1935. If they had started earlier they could have doubled it to pass the 1916 New York Giant’s record. Not to mention the 20 game streak from the Saint Louis Marroons in 1884.
That’s the thing about a winning streak, the longer it is the harder it ends, or else it ends in another World Series win.
Now up to 15 thanks in part to this insane double play:
