This morning I suddenly heard someone clapping right outside my window. ClapClapClapClapClapClap!
I immediately pulled the blinds to see WHO the HELL have the nerve to clamber up in my landscaping and mock me with applause right outside my window, and why.
No one. No one was there. No flutter of shrubs to show they’d run off. No one could have run off, it was ClapClapClapClapClapClapBlinds!
All I can think is that I encountered one of the clapping birds mentioned in this article.
My money’s on the short-eared owl: they fly in the daytime, they live in Missouri, and it was in the morning.
Gary heard some raccoon sex last night, perhaps the owl is saying “thank you for breeding the baby raccoon snacks.”
I tell you, it was really strange.
Birds. They've got all the nerve.
