Of all the things a I’ve been binge-watching — Ozark, WestWorld, Buzzfeed Unsolved — I think the most enjoyable recently was the Backyard Show, in which we spend time watching what’s going on in the backyard.
The Dim-witted Momma raccoon continues to crawl over the neighbors’ fence and disappear into their backyard. I think maybe the reason she seems to vanish is that she climbs the fence so slowly, then pivots and goes down the fence so slowly ... and then I think she runs like hell. That’s why she seems to disappear.
Soon it will be June, and we will have the baby skunks. We have at least four GlamourSkunks now. Last week two of them appeared in the videos, flanking a raccoon, like bookends.
The most enthralling thing was when the Cooper’s Hawk arrived and ate a raven. We didn’t know it was a raven at the time, we just knew that a Cooper’s Hawk that looked to be wearing leg warmers kicked and shredded a big pair of black legs sticking up out of a big pile of black feathers. We put it together with the video later. This was the order of video images: 1) giant eye-catching raven, 2) no raven, 3) nothing on camera but a close up of the tail of a Cooper’s Hawk. I guess he finished and was surveying his killing field.
The spectacle was gross but very entertaining. It was like a True Crime series.
