The other night we backed out of the garage and saw a deer on our corner. It froze (yes, like a deer in the headlights).
”Deer!” Gary gasped. He then adopted the special tone we reserve for the deer. “Hello, sweetie! Are you here to visit us?”
The deer, as if it could hear, bounded into our backyard.
People. The joy. The JOY. I’ve never seen Gary so delighted. All Gary could talk about for miles was how our yard was beloved by the deer above all other yards in the neighborhood. That deer could tell we were heading off for the evening, and he knew he could chill in our yard, drink water in the heated bird bath, look in the windows, and just relax.
And really, Gary is so adorable I see why the deer visit him. I’m surprised deer, squirrels and raccoons don’t prance at his feet every time he walks outside, like he’s Cinderella.
