Gary’s hasn’t been playing his drums. I thought it was because his hands hurt from arthritis, or else he doesn’t want to get sweaty, or it eats into his Facebooking time.
As it turns out, he just hasn’t felt the subliminal nudge that gets him downstairs to play the drums. It appears there is a very specific nudge: I have to practice playing Vincent (Starry, Starry Night) on my guitar.
The last two times I’ve played that, I have listened through two closed doors as Gary has gotten out of his recliner, gone downstairs, and interrupted my practice session to bang on his drums.
I don’t know what neuron that song triggers in his brain. It was released in March 1972, when Gary was 18. Perhaps it evokes memories of parental expectations?
More likely it’s a floaty song that I’m playing with no rhythm, and he needs to subconsciously rock out hard to restore order to the universe.
That is *fascinating* and humans (and human brains) are so, so weird. (two instances *might* be a coincidence, though; you'll have to test further. ;-) )

KC - I did one more test, and he didn’t take the bait, but he was very tired.
