I was at work and invited someone to pedeconference. This person was too young to have watched The West Wing and wasn’t familiar with the term. They were familiar with “walk and talk,” though.
Later that day, I had a lot of urgent work to get done and I had a meeting at the same time. I elected to stay at my desk and keep working on the urgent project, but use Skype to teleconference in to the meeting. That happens often enough that I think we need a term for that too.
At first I thought, ”Skype and Type”, but it turns out that’s already taken. We are warned not to “Skype and Type” because hackers can work out what you are typing because each key on the keyboard has a distinctive click.
German, language for expressing all the thoughts in one word, fails us because “type”, “telephone” and “meeting” are spelled ‘typ”, “Telefon”, and “meeting” (or else Google Translate is feeling to lazy to translate, or ”zumfaulumetwaszuschreiben”.)
I settled on the simpler and less obvious “TeleCON”. Because I am conning the people in the meeting.
I feel that a better term is still out there.
