I am keeping my Memorial Day traditon of saying how pleased I am that I never had a relative die in a war.
The relatives who served during wars all had great good luck in battle, or else the good fortune to have a stateside desk job during the last two weeks of the Korean war, like my Dad.
Other relatives, like Jerry and Gary, were 4F: too ill for the military to accept. As a cynical person might say on Memorial Day: they were deemed too sick to die in a war.
I am sure I would miss the military if the military was no more, but Memorial Day is such a sad, sad day. It seems so unnecessary.
