~~Silk

From internet descriptions and photos I'd say it needs ripening, should be smoothly orange. Ripen on the counter, not in the refrigerator. Cold causes the pulp to break down.

~Silk - good to know. All I could find said that it can be eaten at any point of ripeness, but not what it looked like.

Big Dot

Looks like those pimples are ripe for popping.

Never heard of New Zealand horned melon - and I'm a New Zealander, as you know.

Big Dot - after I bought it I researched what its looks like inside (equally repellent). It also goes by “kiwano, also African horned cucumber or melon, jelly melon, hedged gourd, melano” - Wikipedia
