I had a long week auditing a class, and I am exhausted from leaning forward and pretending to listen. Truly, I sprained my neck with the attentive posture.
I capped off my draining training with a non-stop weekend. First, Gary took me and his tricky back out to see Gravity. I have no idea how they made that movie. Sadly, I had spent too much time the previous weekend on a hunt for information about the lost cosmonauts. It's been a grim month of death (deathhh ...) in (innn ...) space (spaaaaccceeee ...).
Saturday and Sunday I built a brick edge for my front walk and finished almost all the party projects. I'm at a loss for what to serve. I need to make food for 10-20 people, and this is my first normal party in twenty five years. Everything else has been all tea and lobster. What do normal people serve at parties? There will be chips, soda, watermelon, and a lot of chocolate. I don't want to serve pizza.
Right now I'm thinking mini quiches, because of the eggs, of course. Baby corn and baby carrots would be vile in a quiche, though, but it would keep the theme going. Or perhaps I should just serve people Ensure cocktails and have one food everyone likes, and drop the theme for that.
What's a food everyone likes?
Okay, I found this for a drink. How can you beat a "Flaming Pousse?"

Baby Corn Masala can be made the day before, or two days before: http://www.rakskitchen.net/2007/10/baby-corn-korma.html
Curried egg salad can be made a day in advance and you could eat it with veggies (baby carrots and things) or you could stuff it in mini pitas.
All of my friends seem to like Indian/curried flavors so I think that could work.
Hope you have a great time!

Swedish meatballs are always a hit at my parties. Deviled eggs usually go before I can get inside to get one. Mini sliders in a bourbon bbq sauce (which I can make ahead and keep warm in a crockpot) are always a hit.

Tiny hot dogs. Completely off theme.

Barbecued meats. Shrimp.

Brenda - Flaming Pousse! That sounds perfect. Only, I am afraid of it. I can picture the heat breaking the glass and then the flaming alchohol spreads across the table and we all incinerate. Maybe my friends like curry too. Hm.
Zayrina - But only a veggie pizza is kosher, and I never know if my Jewish friends are particular about that. It doesn't seem to follow a schedule. Plus, I still remember the turning point for Aunt Carleen was when she started serving Imo's pizza at her tree trim parties.
Amy in StL - I have never made any of those things, but the devilled eggs might be fun. I think Mom has a Swedish meatball recipe in her recipe box.
Tami - Also not kosher. But, case could be made for male menopause. Or, pigs in blankets, and then they could throw the blankets off. Or I could just call them Pigs with Night Sweats.
Hattie - Shrimp? Isn't anyone out there Jewish or Muslim? And are you all trying to kill me with fire? I can't barbecue, fire scares me. Besides the barbecue is still filled with the debris from the tax returns. I better clean that out before I have someone else light the tampon bonfire.
