Heads up, fans of morbid tv. I have a new favorite show: Curious and Unusual Deaths.
Every episode: three real-life deaths. Curiously! For example, in the one episode I saw:
- Man dies in a few inches of water because he went outside in the cold to feed his cat. (I would do this.)
- Man dies because the put his lava lamp on the stove to heat it up. (I would do this.)
- Man dies from laughing at The Goodies television show (I have already almost done this.)
The Goodies seem to be the three guys Monty Python didn't think were cool enough to be in Monty Python, so they made their own surreal humor group. I watched their show on PBS in the 70s.
It is DATED. Look at that groovy logo.
I loved the two episodes of the Goodies I still remember seeing:
Kitten Kong- Tiny energetic kitten becomes over-sized and destroys London.
And Kung Fu Kapers, which is the one that gave the English gentleman a Curious and Unusual Death.
I can't for the life of me find a transcript or a video of the beginning, so I'm going on memory. It opened with two guys trying to learn Kung Fu. Another comes in and unleashes upon them Time-Delay Kung Fu. The new man goes up to another, slowly pokes and taps various body parts, and then counts to five. The victim convulses from the time-delay Kung Fu. Hilarious physical comedy. It killed me. KILLED me. Evidently it killed the Englishman as well, twenty minutes in, when they were having the battle of Ecky-Thump. A heroic figure goes up against various nationalities ...
Did I mention it was dated?
(This is why you are not going to be seeing this on PBS ever ever again.)
The Ecky-thump master in the big hat thwaks each nationality with a black pudding sausage and then holds out his fist in victory.
No ... really, it was funny. I would link to the YouTube clip but ... it was funny ... when I was ten. And, you know, I don't want to approve of the men in blackface.
The Englishman was not affronted by the blackface and died after laughing for twenty minutes, the narrator of Curious and Unusual Deaths explained, and one of the last things that happened to him before he died was he lost control of his body fluids. He cried and urinated on himself.
This is the LAST symptom before death. Piss yourself, can't breathe, die.
So, just watch it next time that happens to you. You are on the edge.
Ah the blessings of You Tube. Funny how dated a lot of the comedy is, innit?
