Steve from work called me over to read the breaking news about a) the Australian collar bomb AND b) the big D. B. Cooper news. It isn't decided, because they couldn't get fingerprints to clinch it, but I seriously consider the D. B. Cooper case closed.
The guy suspected of being D. B. Cooper ...
Is a guy named L. D. Cooper.
Incriminating details:
He was visiting family very close to where he jumped out of the plane.
His niece remembers he disappeared for a few days and then showed up, bruised and bloody, a day after the skyjacking.
He said to his brother, I got the money, all our money problems are over.
He was a fan of those Dan Cooper paratrooper books they thought inspired D.B. Cooper. The niece remembers seeing one of the comic books tacked to his wall.
And two members of the family referred to the uncle as "YOU KNOW, YOUR UNCLE WHO SKYJACKED THAT PLANE."
No seriously, that last part is true.
aaannnnnd .... and L. D. Cooper named his oldest child Boeing.
And his dog was named Parachute.
And his cat was named Sea-Tac.
Oh, and, and, HE WAS NAMED L. D. COOPER.
Well, not much of that last part was true, except for the name, but it's enough for me.
I feel the need to point out that no one really has anything to say about this. I'll give it a shot, though:
Hey, that guy had family members who knew that he'd committed the crime, but the people who loved him didn't turn him in while he was alive? Huh!

Tami- D B Cooper mystery almost solved! Why is there no wild excitement?
And, since the story she remembered was that the three brothers conspired, she'd be turning in her dad. Someone else claimed D.B. was a relative and didnt realize the statute of limitations hadn't run out, so she recanted.
